envy /envē/ - a feeling of
discontented or resentful longing aroused by someone else's possessions,
qualities, or luck.
Hmmm…let me think for once. Well let me tell you with this, when I
was in my Psychology class few years back in my college life. I remembered when
she said that humans have the ability to get envy and there should
not be any questions if somebody would feel envy towards anyone because it
is a normal reaction of all humans at a point.
There were researches that have been conducted by a
number of researchers – most of them are psychologists and psychiatrists -
and they found out that the there is something strange feeling that comes
out into a person when they find something or abilities of a person
that they want to have but generally they do not really have. This strange
feeling that they discovered after the tiring and very long research is
commonly we called envy.
The findings of the research also appeared that humans do feel envy
as a normative feeling and no one is excuse even if they are doctors who
specialize and study brains like these researchers do. The findings also
stressed that it is not good and proper to get mad when you feel envy because
that is typically normal.
~ Do not overrate what you have received, nor envy others. He who
envies others does not obtain peace of mind. - Buddha ~
Back then when I was at my schooling days, we were always told by
my mother to always get an honor or either a citation after the school year
ends because in their times they were battered if they will not get any honors.
Every time when anybody from the class got to know the answers when the teacher
asks; I got mad and feel envy and sometimes questioning myself of why they can do
and why I cannot. But there is someone in our class that I really envied a lot
and somehow admired for his wit and intelligence.
This person happened to be our class Valedictorian and
all teachers are really pleased and impressed of the talents that he has. I
always tried to compete with him ignoring if he was aware or not,
unfortunately, he excelled in so many ways that I cannot. One day I confronted
and asked him if where did he get this unwavering talents and he just only
answered me calmly, “maybe it’s just me”, and while saying, “perhaps you just
did not find for now yours.”
